A neck lift is a surgical procedure performed with the goal of improving redundant neck skin, muscle, and fat that can result in a double chin – to restore a more youthful appearance and a defined jawline. In some cases, depending on a patient’s anatomy and skin laxity, a neck lift may be performed in conjunction with a facelift, chin implantation, or neck liposuction.
Depending on your anatomy, Dr. Saigal will draft a detailed plan for achieving an optimal ‘lift’, and give you multiple surgical and anesthesia options. Generally, however, the procedure is performed under twilight anesthesia with a small incision under the chin, and extra skin and fat are removed while the platysma muscle is tightened. In some cases, small incisions are required around the ear as well.
Surgery typically takes about 2 hours, in a fully accredited OR, with same day discharge and a comfortable and near painless recovery at home. Professional at-home or hotel nursing care can be coordinated by our friendly staff as well, to assist with your recovery.
Liposuction can be performed by itself, or combined with the neck lift as described above. Liposuction is also performed through a tiny incision under the chin, that is typically closed with 1-2 sutures.
An ideal candidate for Neck/Submental liposuction is typically under age 45, with excellent skin elasticity, and good jaw/mandibular anatomy. In this setting, liposuction can be performed awake in the office under local anesthesia, with immediate results, limited dissection and a quick and painless recovery.
